Will I get a job when I finish the
course?
The Legal Profession is always seeking
Legal personnel. You will get a job provided
your experience and skills are adequate
and you have successfully earned your
Legal Secretary or Paralegal Certificate with
us. All anyone has to do is to test your
skills and legal knowledge. See our
Testimonials page for confirmation.
We ensure that all our courses are as
comprehensive as possible to give you the
best entry into the legal world. Many of our
students become so stimulated that they
have gone onto higher education in law.
Others have taken our Certificates &
Diplomas abroad where they have found
employment, been promoted and have been
very highly commended.
Job Boards like London Careers and
Legaljobsboard are invaluable when you
are looking for legal jobs as are a number of
employment agencies throughout our cities
and high streets.
It is fair to say that just having completed
a legal course, does not mean you will
always go right to the top jobs. You might
have to work your way through but even
middle positions are just as lucrative and
interesting.
Whatever the state of the economy, legal
personnel have always been in demand.

Reasons for studying with Online Training College
- OTC is a highly respected training college specialising in Paralegal & Legal Secretarial
courses. As a learning institution, we ensure that we provide the highest quality courses to
prepare our students for the job of Paralegals or Legal Secretaries.
- All our efforts are 100% focused on teaching Paralegals & Legal Secretaries. Our courses are
constantly being updated to reflect changes in the Law. We have the history as we are one of
the oldest training institutions in the UK for legal studies.
- We are at the front for innovation regarding courses, studying methods and course contents.
We do not rely on others to give us ideas. Others rely on our ideas.
- We are firmly committed to provide top quality legal training for our secretaries & paralegals, as
maintaining our excellent reputation is vital to us. We are constantly implementing new ways
to improve the lives of our trainees with innovative training methods and course contents which
so many try to emulate. In fact, most training providers rely on our ideas.
- We still remain the first point of call for students because of our intensive, fully comprehensive
courses.
- OTC's diplomas and certificates give the assurance that you have achieved excellence in legal
training and will be fully conversant with what to do within a Conveyancing or Litigation
department.
- Our online classroom is the new convenient way to study and must not be confused with any
other type of online offers. There is an online lecturer who teaches the subjects and answers
all your questions immediately. It’s easy, very convenient and cost effective.
- We are fully aware of how demanding solicitors can be and this is only to be expected as any
lapse in procedure could be very costly. After all, legal work is being involved with large
corporate mergers and acquisitions, divorces, buying or leasing properties, preparing cases on
behalf of defendants, drawing up pre-marital and other types of contracts and sorting out
estates after a death. We prepare you for this.
- All these matters must be given undivided attention and expert handling. So if you are prone to
a few hung-over Monday mornings, you will have to sober up pretty quickly, when the first
telephone call is from someone who has been arrested and held over the weekend in a police
station cell!
Are the Courses recognised?
We are accredited by the governing body of Paralegals - the Institute of Paralegals. Our diplomas and
certificates are accepted throughout the UK and by Lawyers and Solicitors who practice English
Law within the Commonwealth.
I am a Law Graduate, do I have to do a Paralegal Course to work as a Paralegal?
If you have already done a law degree but have not yet completed the LPC (Legal Practice Course) you
will be required to complete Module 2 - Procedural Law Course/PLC of our Paralegal Course. If you
have already completed the LPC you do not need to do a Paralegal Course in order to work as a
Paralegal. Many law students study our Paralegal Course in order to work within the legal profession
while continuing their studies. Now that's a good idea!
Is Legal Work for me?
Legal work is very rewarding both financially and mentally. You learn a lot for your own personal use
and you are dealing with interesting cases, whether they are criminal, divorces or buying and selling
properties, so it is not surprising that so many people want to enter this world, either as a legal
secretary, paralegal or other types of property personnel.
If you have excellent secretarial skills, work well to deadlines, can cope with a very busy environment
without becoming flustered, be sympathetic to grieving divorcees or not become irritated with
a wife who constantly changes her mind about whether to divorce her husband or not, then this could
prove to be a very rewarding choice of career.
Will I benefit from joining the Institute of Paralegals?
Yes. Your career will certainly benefit from becoming a member of an influential, prestigious governing
body such as the Institute of Paralegals. You will convince many potential employers that you are
taking your legal career seriously.
Where will my career take me?
This is one of the few professions, where starting out as a secretary could result in you becoming a
Judge!
The choice is yours.
What salary can I expect to earn?
A newly qualified legal secretary depending on ability
can expect to earn from about £19,000.00 per annum
in the City or West End and perhaps a bit less in
Greater London. Legal Temporary Secretaries can earn
up to £20.00 per hour.
A newly qualified Paralegal can earn between £16,000
and £25,000.00 per annum.
You could work for a fee earner, dealing with his legal
speciality like criminal, matrimonial, conveyancing or
civil matters.
You could also choose to work within the legal
department of commercial companies such as banks,
insurance companies and estate agents or within the
public sector such as local authorities, the Crown
Prosecution Service, the courts, probation service or
Citizens Advice Bureaux.

From years of personal working experience with Law Firms and in
conjunction with Solicitors, we have produced work-related courses. We
have achieved the highest accolade from the Legal Profession itself. There
are now many 'versions' of what legal secretary and paralegal courses
should cover. We provide courses which are work related covering
Principles of English Law and the Procedural Law Course /PLC. Our
courses are constantly being updated to keep abreast of changes in the
law.
We work with genuine professional "not-for-profit" governing bodies such
as the Institute of Paralegals, whose primary aim is to promote the
profession of Legal Secretaries and Paralegals, in terms of conduct,
emploability and qualifications.

Is it Worth doing a Course?
The answer is yes. What most solicitors want to know
is "can you do the job and do it well?" Legal work is
highly specialised and requires expertise to work
effectively within a legal environment. If you wish to
qualify as a Legal Secretary, your typing
skills are of the utmost importance. In general, good
command of English grammar and spelling are equally
important for everyone.
Do I need a Licence to Work as a
Paralegal?
No. You need a Paralegal qualification to
prove that you have qualified. There are 3
stages of qualification - Introduction,
Intermediate and Advanced.

What type of training is required to
become a paralegal?
One idea is to study a shorter but very
comprehensive programme. Start working
and get some experience. Then, if you
chose to continue your education, you
could progress to university or equivalent.
